Once the sample is loaded and you have set the initial X-ray conditions, you can switch
X-rays on. When you do this, there is a delay before the X-rays are generated by the X-ray
source in the inspection system.
This is the pre-warning delay and is a safety feature. The length of the pre-warning delay is
set to two seconds by default.
By default the pre-warning delay only occurs if the system door has
been opened since the last X-ray On.
To switch X-rays on, follow these steps:
1. In the X-ray zone, click Switch X-rays On.

The higher the kV is set, the greater the penetration.
The higher µA is set, the greater the brightness.

You can display a live image of an object under inspection on only one of the Image tabs in
Inspect-X. Use the other tabs to display captured images or images that you have saved
previously and re-loaded.
The live image displays a green border to distinguish it from captured
or loaded images. The border is red when X-rays are switched on.
To view a live X-ray image, follow these steps:
1. Ensure X-rays are switched on.
2. In the image window, click an Image tab. The live image displays on the tab you select.
3. On the image toolbar, click

The X-ray image on the selected tab is the view of the object, providing the manipulator
has been moved to view the object. If you cannot see an image, switch the X-rays on.
