coolanttemperaturesbelow150°F
(70°C).
Forcoolanttemperaturesbelow150°F
(70°C),usealowgearanddrive
atmoderateenginespeeduntilthe
enginecoolanthasreachedoperating
temperature.DONOTlettheengine
idlelongerthannecessary.
CAUTION
DONOToperatetheengineatlow
idleforlongperiodswithengine
coolanttemperaturebelowthe
minimumspecicationin“Cooling
System”onpage5-15.Thiscan
resultinthefollowing:
Fueldilutionofthelubricating
oil
Carbonbuildupinthe
combustionchamber
Stickingofthevalvesinthe
cylinderhead
Reducedperformance
Damagetoaftertreatment
components
NOTE
Forenginesequippedwiththe
enginewarm-upprotectionfea-
ture;thisfeaturelimitsengine
speedandtorquefollowingengine
start-upuntilsufcientoilpressure
isavailabletotheenginecompo-
nents.Thisfeaturereducesthe
riskofenginepartdamagedue
tooperatingatenginespeedstoo
highorloadsbeforeadequateoil
pressureisachieved.
Someenginesareequippedwitha
“Fast-IdleWarm-Up”feature.When
enabled,thisfeatureelevatestheidle
speedoftheengineincoldambient
conditions,inordertoshortenthetime
necessarytowarmuptheengine.
Whentheidlespeediselevated,the
enginenoisemaychange,thisis
