NOTE
Someenginesareequippedwith
anenginestartingmotorprotec-
tionfeature.Ifthestartingmo-
torisengagedfor30ormoresec-
onds,withouttheenginestarting,
thestarterwillbelockedoutfrom
operating,allowingforpropercool-
ingofthestartingmotor.During
thistime,the“Wait-to-Start”lamp
willashfortwominutes.Once
thelampdiscontinuesashing,the
startingmotorwillbeallowedto
function.
CAUTION
Theenginemusthaveadequateoil
pressurewithin15secondsafter
startingtheengine.Iftheoilpres-
suregaugedoesnotregisterthe
minimumpressure,ordropsbelow
theminimumpressure,aredwarn-
inglightinthegaugewillcomeon,
awarningbuzzerwillsound,and
the“StopEngine”lampwillcome
on.Thisshouldbeconsideredan
emergency.Operatingtheengine
inthisconditionmaycausesevere
enginedamage.Youshouldstop
thevehicleassafelyaspossible.
Thevehiclemustbeservicedand
theproblemcorrectedbeforedriv-
ingagain.

CAUTION
Toreducethepossibilityofdam-
agetothelubricatingoilpan,due
tothecompositematerialsusedin
themanufactureofthelubricating
oilpan,undernocircumstances
shouldanexternalheatsourcebe
applieddirectlyorindirectlytothe
lubricatingoilpan.
Followthe“NormalStartingProcedure”
onpage4-4.Ifequippedwithanintake
airheater,the“Wait-to-Start”lampwill
stayonlonger.
Refertothevehicleoperator'smanual
instructionsforanyadditionalcold
weatherstartingprocedures.
Ifstartingacoldengine,slowly
increasetheenginespeed.This
providesadequatelubricationtothe
