NOTE
DONOTshutofftheengineim-
mediately.Ahotenginestoresa
greatamountofheatanditdoes
notcooldownimmediatelyafterit
isshutoff.Alwayscooltheengine
downbeforeshuttingitoff.Youwill
greatlyincreaseitsservicelife.
Idletheengineat1,000RPMforfour
minutes.Thenlowidlefor30seconds
beforeshutdown.Thiswillallow
circulatingcoolantandlubricatingoil
tocarryheatawayfromthecylinder
head,valves,pistons,cylinderliners,
turbocharger,andbearings.Thisway
youcanpreventenginedamagethat
mayresultfromunevencooling.
NOTE
Forenginesequippedwithanelec-
troniccontrolmodule(ECM)en-
surethekeyswitchisturnedOFF
foraminimumof70secondsprior
todisconnectingthecontinuous
(unswitched)batterypowersupply.
Iftheunswitchedbatterypower
supplyisdisconnectedinlessthan
70secondsafterthekeyswitch
isturnedOFF ,activefaultcodes
andincorrectECMinformationcan
occur.
TurntheignitionswitchtotheOFF
position.Iftheenginedoesnot
shutdown,referto“Troubleshooting
Symptom”(SectionTS)inthe
appropriatemaintenancemanual.
