NOTE
Numeroussafetydevices(i.e.en-
gineshutoffdevices)areavailable
tominimizetheriskofengineover-
speedingcausedbycombustible
vaporsbeingingestedintotheair
intakesystem.
PACCARrecommendstheinstallation
ofanairintakeshutoffdeviceora
similarsafetydevicetominimizethe
riskofoverspeeding,ascanoccur
whenthevehicleisbeingoperatedin
acombustibleenvironment,suchas
fromafuelspillorgasleak.
NormalStartingProcedure
1.EnsuretheparkingbrakeissetON
andthetransmissionshiftlever
isinneutral(N).Forautomatic
transmissionsthathavepark(P)
position,placetheshiftleverin
park.
2.Withtheacceleratorpedalinthe
idle
position,turntheignitionkey
totheSTARTpositiontostartthe
engine.
3.Iftheenginedoesnotstartafter
10seconds,realease.Waitan
additional10secondstoallow
thestartermotortocool,thentry
staringtheengineagain.
NOTE
Iftheengineisrunning,DONOT
increaseenginespeed(RPM)or
operatethevehicleuntilthelowoil
pressurewarninglampturnsoff.
CAUTION
Engagingthestartermotorfor
morethan30secondsinanyve
minuteperiodmaycauseittoover-
heatandcandamagethestarter.
Ifstarterisengaged
continuouslyfor30seconds,
youmustwaitveminutes
beforetryingtostarttheengine
toallowthestartermotorto
cooldown.
Withthekeyinthe“ON”position,the
enginewarninglampswillcomeon
momentarilyandthengoout.The
enginewarninglampsinclude:
