togetherwithULSDfueltomeet
the2013U.S.EnvironmentalPro-
tectionAgency(EPA)regulations.
Ultra-lowsulfurdieselfuelisdened
asdieselfuelnotexceeding0.0015
(15ppm)masspercentsulfurcontent
(ultra-lowdieselfuelisalsodenedby
ASTMS-15).Therearenoacceptable
substitutes.
PACCARrecommendstheuseof
ASTMnumber2Dfuel.Theuseof
number2dieselfuelwillresultin
optimumengineperformance.
Atoperatingtemperaturesbelow32°F
(0°C),acceptableperformancecanbe
obtainedbyusingblendsofnumber
2Dandnumber1D.
Usingdieselfuelwitha
lower-than-recommendedcetane
numbercancausehardstarting,poor
idleandexcessivewhitesmoke.T o
maintainsatisfactoryoperationatlow
ambienttemperatures,itisimportant
tospecifydieselfuelofthecorrect
cetanenumber.
PACCARrequiresallpermissible
fuelstohaveadequatefuellubricity.
LubricitycanbedeterminedbyASTM,
specicationD6079,ISO12156,high
frequencyreciprocatingrig(HFRR)in
whichthefuelmusthaveawearscar
diameterof0.02in.(0.5mm)orless.
Theuseofultra-lowsulferdiesel
(ULSD)fuelisrequiredforthisengine
inordertomeetemissionregulations
andtopreventdamagetotheengine
andexhaustsystem.Theuseof
othergradesofdieselfuelsotherthan
ULSDfuelwillbeconsideredauseof
incorrectfuelfortheengine.PACCAR
isnotresponsibleforfailurescaused
bytheuseofincorrectfuel,oilorDEF
orbywater,dirtorothercontainments
inthefuelorDEF.
