Why is my Pentair intellidrive pid20 showing an Over Voltage error?
    • E
      Eric BarnesAug 20, 2025
If the Pentair Controller displays an 'Over Voltage' error, it could be due to several reasons. First, there might be an internal drive short, which you can check by measuring the outputs with an ohmmeter while the power to the drive is off. Second, power cycling on and off could be the issue, so check for a generator or switching on the input line. Finally, high line voltage could be the cause; measure the incoming line voltage to the drive, ensuring it's between 190V and 265V.

How to fix Over Current error on Pentair Controller?
    • J
      Joseph BrewerAug 22, 2025
If your Pentair Controller displays an 'Over Current' error, it typically indicates a shorted output. Check the motor cables for any shorts. It could also be due to damaged wire insulation. Inspect the motor wire insulation using a megger.

What to do if Pentair Controller cannot start the motor?
    • H
      Heather JohnsonAug 25, 2025
If your Pentair Controller isn't starting the motor, first ensure that the Service Factor Amps value entered is correct. A missing or incorrect Service Factor Amps value can prevent the motor from starting. Also, check the resistance of all motor wires to make sure there isn't an open connection. Lastly, a locked rotor could be the problem; pull the pump and check for any debris.

Why is the Warning LED flashing on my Pentair intellidrive pid20?
    • E
      Elizabeth DiazAug 26, 2025
If the Warning LED is flashing on your Pentair Controller, verify the ground wire is connected on both the incoming voltage side and the motor side of the Drive. This issue can arise from an ungrounded Drive, especially when the ground detection parameter is disabled. With the power disconnected, use an ohmmeter to verify which pipe the Drive’s transducer is connected to, and also verify that the input ground wire is at the same potential. Verify the input ground is connected all the way back to the electrical panel.

What causes a Ground Fault on a Pentair Controller?
    • T
      tonya91Aug 28, 2025
If your Pentair Controller indicates a 'Ground Fault', inspect the ground wire for a short to the motor phase wire, or check the insulation integrity with a megger. Also, be aware that a motor cable length exceeding 1000 ft is not recommended, as it can cause a ground fault.

How do I troubleshoot a Dry Run error on my Pentair Controller?
    • B
      Brittany JimenezAug 30, 2025
If your Pentair Controller is showing a 'Dry Run' error, it might be due to operation at open discharge. You may need to reduce Dry Run Sensitivity pressure or apply back pressure on the transducer. Check for a pipe break or large leak. Also, check the water level in the well. Finally, the drive may not be reading the transducer signal. Check the linearity of the transducer, as it may be damaged.

What causes Over Temperature on Pentair intellidrive pid20?
    • N
      Nancy HebertAug 31, 2025
If your Pentair Controller displays 'Over Temperature', ensure the ambient temperature is not above 50°C (122°F). Check for an inoperable or obstructed fan. Also, ensure that the vents are not obstructed.

What does 'System Not Grounded' mean on my Pentair intellidrive pid20 Controller?
    • J
      jessica92Sep 2, 2025
If your Pentair Controller is displaying a 'System Not Grounded' error, the Ground Detect parameter can be disabled, but will reactivate after 72 hours. It also can be caused by unbalanced or three phase incoming voltage. Line to line voltage must be twice line to ground voltage.

How to troubleshoot Open Transducer error on Pentair Controller?
    • M
      martinezrussellSep 4, 2025
If your Pentair Controller shows an 'Open Transducer' error, check that all transducer wires are securely connected and inspect for damaged cable insulation. Verify the proper wiring of all transducer wires and ensure the cable connector is securely attached to the transducer. Check the electrical system for ground loops or no ground connection. Also, make sure the transducer wires are correctly placed, with red in AI+ and black in AI-. Finally, the transducer may have failed.

What to do for Low Amps on Pentair intellidrive pid20?
    • J
      Jessica PowersSep 6, 2025
If your Pentair Controller is showing 'Low Amps', try increasing the Minimum Speed to 35 Hz. Wait 20 minutes, then restart the pump. Check all motor connections at the Drive. The issue might be due to a missing motor phase or an undersized pump.
