1204F - DEF System Supplement
4.2.2 DEF Filler Cap
The DEF cap is designed such that it cannot be installed on other type of tanks (fuel, coolant, etc)
and conversely, other caps cannot be used on the DEF tank. The cap shall be UV resistant and
resistant to splashing from diesel, coolant, DEF, hydraulic fluid, motor oil and water.
The cap shall be coloured blue and the symbol and marking is done according to ISO 22241-
1 and ISO 2575.
The cap shall meet cleanliness requirements of ISO 22241-3.
The DEF cap features are:
Cap lanyard
Design clearances require 90° turn to remove cap
Open venting to eliminate the build-up of pressure in the tank as gases/fluids expand as
temperature increases per DEF Pump specifications.
Cap Filter with Filtration Value - 100μ with a 4µ hydrophobic membrane.
4.2.3 DEF tank header
The tank header can be supplied installed in the DEF tank as part or supplied loose for fitment to an
OEM designed tank (both in same engine option).
Fig 4.3 below shows the different elements that go to make up the Perkins DEF tank header
The correct fitment of the coolant lines to the DEF tank header is critical to ensure the venting of air
and thawing efficiency. Arrows are cast into the header to identify inlet/outlet and customer lines
should be marked or labelled to ensure the correct match is made.
