2. At this point, the engine is ready for assembly of the magnetos. Remove the inspection plugs from
both magnetos and turn the drive shafts in direction of normal rotation (counterclockwise facing the coupling),
until the first painted chamfered tooth on the distributor gear is aligned in the center of the inspection window.
(Refer to Figure 74-30.) Being sure that the gear does not move from this position, install gaskets and
magnetos on the engine. Secure with washers and nuts; tighten only finger tight.
—NOTE—
The magnetos are held in place by clamps which allows them to
be timed in several positions. Since all positions will not give the
required clearance between magneto and engine mount, the
magnetos must be installed from the horizontal position to 20°
above the horizontal as shown in Figure 74-29. Improper
installation of magnetos could cause damage or failure.
—NOTE—
In order to turn the shaft on an impulse coupling magneto,
depress pawl on the impulse coupling with the finger.
