6.0 Troubleshooting Tips
If a problem arises with the printer, the information in this section will help you
resolve it. Use this guide as a starting point in troubleshooting. If you have
questions, or if problems persist, contact a qualified service technician or a
Technical Support Representative. The following are problems that will not
necessarily generate a message (see Section 6.1 for Fault and Warning
Messages).
If experiencing this problem… Try this solution…
Cannot communicate through
the parallel port:
Be sure the parallel cable is connected and is
the correct type for the application. Try
setting the ‘Parallel Port Direction’ to Uni-
Directional; some host computers are not bi-
directional compatible. See Section 4.1.5.
Display is blank, but the
READY indicator is ‘On’:
The display contrast may set too low. Press
and hold the MENU key for 10 seconds or
until the display reappears.
Erratic printing (strange
characters instead of label
formats print):
The printer may be in ‘hex dump mode’;
see Section 6.2. Enter the Diagnostics
menu and disable this mode; see Section
4.1.6. Exit the menu, save changes and
return to the ‘READY’ mode.
If using the serial port for communicating,
check both the host and printer port
configuration; the printer may be set for 8
data bits while the host is set for 7 bits (or
vice versa).
