You can directly connect Plexxi 2e switches together using a QSFP-to-QSFP cable such as DAC or
AOC. You cannot directly connect Plexxi 2e switches in a network that includes Switch 2p and 2sp as
well or if the deployment is expected to grow beyond seven switches.

• Three type of connections are allowed between two Plexxi 2e switches:
W1-E1, W2-E2, W3-E3
QSFP DAC or AOC cables are connected from the top ports (W1, W2, W3) to the bottom ports (E1,
E2, E3), East and West ports of the same number are allowed to connect.
• Number the Plexxi 2e switches you want to connect starting with 1. For example, if you are
connecting five Plexxi 2e switches, number them 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. You can affix a label to the switch for
identification.
• Start the connection from Switch 2e 1, go on to Switch 2e 2 next, through to the last Switch 2e in the
Plexxi Ring fabric.
• Start connections from W1, then W2, then W3 for each Switch 2e.
• Connect W1 to E1, W2 to E2, and W3 to E3. For each switch, connect W1 to the next numbered
switch E1, W2 to the E2 port of the switch that comes next in order, and W3 to the E3 port of the
switch that comes next again in order. For example, you plug one end of the DAC or AOC cable in
W1 on Switch 2e 1 and the other end in E1 on the Switch 2e 2.

1. Number your switches 1 to 4.

In a five Switch 2e network, when you connect Switch 2e 5, the next switch is 1, followed by switch 2,
and then switch 3.
1. Number your switches 1 to 5.
2. Connect switch 5:
• W1 to switch 1 E1
• W2 to switch 2 E2
• W3 to switch 3 E3
