LEFT HAND CONTROL
Left Hand Control Diagnostics
The left-hand control switch assembly features two
independent slide switches for the thumb and hand
warmer circuits. This allows the operator to set the thumb
warmer to OFF/LOW/HIGH and the hand warmers to
OFF/LOW/MED/HIGH.
Left Hand Control Continuity Checks
Set multimeter to read continuity and check left-hand
control pins as shown in illustration below.
Left Hand Control Power Input/Output Check
1. 1.With power harness (connector A-F) removed from
the left-hand control panel, insert the RED multimeter
probe into the C terminal of the harness connector.
Connect the BLACK probe to engine ground.
2. Terminal C will either have a YELLOW wire
(carbureted/DC-CFI snowmobiles) or RED/WHT wire
(CFI snowmobiles).
3. Start the engine. Set the multimeter to check for AC
voltage (carbureted/DC-CFI snowmobiles) or DC
voltage (CFI snowmobiles).
4. Observe the voltage reading. The reading should be
either 12-14 VAC or 12-14 VDC depending on the
vehicle. If no or low voltage is present, there is a
problem with the chassis electrical system. If voltage
is present, continue with step 5.
5. Reconnect the power harness back into the left-hand
control. Set both the thumb and hand warmer
switches to HIGH.
6. Locate the thumb and hand warmer element pad wire
plugs on the handlebar. Disconnect the plugs from the
pads. Using your multimeter, insert the RED probe
into the low or medium terminals and the BLACK
probe into the ground terminal. You should see the
same voltage at each of the low and medium terminals
as was seen at the left-hand control.
7. Perform this test on both hand warmers and the thumb
warmer.
8. If there is a drop in voltage or no voltage at all, there
is an issue (broken wire, short circuit) in between the
left-hand control connector (AA-FF) and handlebar
connectors.
