With gybe inhibit on:
you will be able to perform an AutoT ack into the wind.
the autop ilot will prevent the boat from performing an AutoT ack away from
the wind, to prevent accidental gybes.
With gybe inhibit off:
you can perform an AutoT ack into or away from th e wind.
Note:
Gybe inhibit is switched on as a default but can be disabled in User Calibration (see
page 30).
Gusty conditions
CAUTION: Risk of gybe
Always be aware of the relative wind angle, especially when using
the Autopilot to sail down wind.
In gusty conditions, the course may tend to wander slightly , particularly if the sails
are badl y balanced. If yo u take the following precaution s, the SmartP ilot will be
able to maintain competent control even in gale force conditions:
Y ou can improve course k eeping by improving the sail balance:
do no t allow the boat to h eel over excessively .
ease the mainsheet traveller to leewa rd to reduce heeling and weather
helm.
if necessary , reef the mainsail a little early.
In very stron g winds and large seas , you should avoid sailing with the wind
dead astern :
ideally, bring th e wind at least 30° away from a dead run.
in severe condi tions, you may also need to remove the mainsa il and sail
under headsail only .
