AutoTack angle
When sail ing in Wind V ane mode you sh ould set the AutoT ack ang le to 20°
greater than the actual required change of heading.
Example
If you wish to tack through 80° (i.e when sailing at 40° to the wind) you should set
the Auto T ack angle to 100°. The SmartP ilot will AutoT ack through the larger
angle an d then trim the helm back to the wind vane locked head ing.
Y ou can adjust the default Auto T ack angle in User Calibration (see
page 30
).
Operating hints for Wind V ane mode
• Alw ays trim your sails careful ly to minimize the amount of standing helm.
• Reef the headsail and mainsail a little early rather th an too late.
• In Wind Vane mode the SmartPilot will react to longterm wind shifts, but will
not cor rect for shortterm changes su ch as gusts.
• In gu sty and unsteady in shore condition s, it is best to sail a few degrees fur
ther off the wind so that changes in win d direction can be to lerated.
