146 - Getting to know your vehicle
Adaptive main beam headlights
Depending on the vehicle, the adaptive
high beam headlights are divided into
severalindependentverticalseg-
ments. This function uses a camera
7
located behind the interior rear view
mirror to detect vehicles that are in
front as well as vehicles moving in the
opposite direction.
Note: make sure the windscreen is not
obscured(dirt,mud,snow,condensa-
tion, etc.).
Whenavehicleisdetected,theseg-
mentsilluminatingthisareaautomati-
cally switch off so as not to dazzle it.
Undercertainconditions,thebright-
nessoftheadaptivemainbeamhead-
lightswillbemodifiedtooptimiselight-
ing:
when approaching reflective signs,
thelightingpowerwillbelocallyre-
duced in order to limit dazzling;
when on a motorway, the beam will
be reduced in order to minimise the
annoyance to road users moving in the
opposite direction.
Switching on
From the multimedia screen
8
, access
the "Vehicle" world and press the "Ve-
hicle" menu, then "Exterior" and "Light-
ing".
Activateordeactivate"Adaptivelight-
ing".
Pleaserefertothemultimediainstruc-
tions for further information.
The main beam headlights come on
automatically if:
the exterior light level is low;
the vehicle speed is higher than the
threshold.
If any of the above conditions are not
fulfilled, the system switches to dipped
beam headlights.
Note: at night, in urban areas with
street lighting, the adaptive main beam
headlights automatically switch off.
The "Adaptive main
beamheadlights"sys-
temshouldundernocir-
cumstances substitute
thedriver'sattentionandrespon-
sibilitywithregardtovehiclelight-
ing and adapting to light, visibility
and traffic conditions.
