Overview

The HydraTherm DT is a heating unit designed for clinical and professional use, specifically for warming HydraHeat Packs. It features a digital thermostat for precise temperature control and a finned rack system for even heat distribution and easy pack removal.

Function Description

The HydraTherm DT is a heating unit that warms HydraHeat Packs to a desired temperature. The unit maintains the water temperature within an adjustable range of 120°F (49°C) to 150°F (65°C). It is designed to keep heat packs separate for even heat distribution and includes a raising mechanism to lift packs for easier removal. The digital thermostat on the front of the unit controls and maintains water temperature, and displays current temperature, set temperature, time, and date. It also provides error codes for troubleshooting.

  • Drain Hose Length: 3'6"
  • DT Finned Rack Measurements (L x W x H): 15.5" x 3" x 9"
  • Safety Class: B - Equipment providing a particular degree of protection against electric shock, particularly regarding allowable leakage currents and reliability of the protective earth connection (if present).
  • Tank Capacity: 28.7 Liters
  • Safety Tests Performed: IEC 60601-1-2
  • Heat Up Time to Default (approx.): 3-8 hours (depending on initial and final water temperature)

Usage Features

  • User Interface: The unit features a digital thermostat with a display showing time, date, current device temperature, and desired set temperature. A settings menu allows users to adjust time, date, temperature measurement preference (°F/°C), and view error codes.
  • Temperature Control: The desired set temperature can be increased or decreased using up/down arrows on the keypad. The unit defaults to 135°F (57°C) and should not exceed 150°F (65°C).
  • Rack System: The finned rack system keeps heat packs separate for even heat distribution and acts as a raising mechanism for easier pack removal. The rack assembly involves aligning keyed features on the rack and handle, inserting them, and rotating the handle to a vertical position.
  • Pack Configurations: Richmar recommends specific pack configurations to ensure even heat distribution. For 6 - 12" x 10" packs, they fit best with the long side placed vertically. For a variety size configuration, cervical and oversize packs should be folded, and standard packs placed vertically.
  • Water Level Monitoring: Users must check the water level daily due to evaporation and every 2 hours for the first 8 hours on initial startup or when new packs are added, as new packs can absorb water. The water level should always be at or over the top of the heat packs.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • The unit is for clinical/professional use only.
    • Do not apply HydraHeat Packs directly to the patient's skin; always use a towel, pillowcase, or washable terry cover.
    • Monitor patient's skin to ensure it does not become too hot; do not leave patients unattended.
    • Do not use oils or liniments on patients with sensitive skin or poor circulation.
    • Do not move the unit when filled with heated water to prevent scalding/burns.
    • Do not use the unit in the presence of flammable anesthetics.
    • Do not place hands into the heating unit when removing packs.
    • Do not sit on the HydraTherm DT.
    • Do not add chlorine additive to the water.
    • Allow a minimum of 18.5" clearance above the lid for pack removal and 6" or more in the back for power switch access.
    • Consult healthcare professionals before using heat packs on individuals who cannot communicate.
    • If water reaches or exceeds 150°F (65°C), turn off the unit, remove the power cord, and quarantine the unit, then contact Richmar Technical Service.
    • A Ground Fault Interruption circuit or receptacle (GFI outlet) is recommended for additional protection.
  • Powering On/Off: To turn on, plug the power cord into a properly grounded wall outlet and push the Power Switch to the "I" position. To turn off, press the switch to the "O" position and unplug the unit.
  • Error Codes: The unit displays error codes for various issues such as low water level, over-temperature, element malfunctions, and communication failures. A troubleshooting section in the manual provides solutions for these codes.

Maintenance Features

  • Draining: The unit should be drained using the provided drain hose. The hose connects to a male connection on the back of the tank. The process takes approximately 10 minutes. It is crucial to allow the unit to cool down before draining and moving.
  • Cleaning:
    • Unplug the unit from the electrical outlet before cleaning.
    • Turn off the unit and allow water and packs to cool to room temperature.
    • Remove packs and the finned rack.
    • Drain the unit as per instructions.
    • Use a sponge with a non-abrasive cleaning solution to clean the interior of the tank.
    • Remove and clean the drain filter to clear any debris.
    • Rinse the tank thoroughly to remove any residue.
    • It is recommended to clean the HydraTherm DT a minimum of twice a year, or more frequently if needed.
  • Water Type: The HydraTherm DT can be filled completely with tap water; distilled water is not necessary.
  • Pack Replacement: Replace heat packs as soon as they show signs of wear, typically annually per manufacturer recommendations.
  • Authorized Parts: Always use factory-authorized replacement parts.
  • Storage: If the unit is to be left unattended for longer than one week, turn off, disconnect power, remove and store packs dry, and drain the tank. Do not store the unit in a confined space.
  • Warranty: The warranty may be voided if other heat pack products are used, if the device is not properly grounded, or if maintenance is neglected. Richmar recommends using only HydraHeat Packs.
