as closed windows reflect the laser beams
3.5 First steps without LRF Interface Kit
LRF modules can be connected to your PC without an interface cable provided by Safran Vectronix. In
this case we recommend reading this manual carefully before using the LRF module. Please be aware of
the risk of wrong pin-connection or destroying the module by applying overvoltage and other errors.
For the correct pin configuration see chapter 5.1 System Connector and Signal Description.
Power supply must not exceed the operational range, see chapter 5.3 Operating conditions.
The common Interface settings present in most commercial applications, are listed below. Some of them may
not be necessarily present:
o Communication type: Serial
o Encoding (transmit and receive): ASCII UTF-8
o Speed: 57’600 baud rate
o Transmit delay inter-character: 0 msec
o Transmit delay inter-line: 0 msec
o Data: 8 bit
o Parity: even
o Stop bits: 1 bit
o Flow control: none
o Echo: On

Some commercial interfaces send automatically the Carriage Return
Commercial software may use different nomenclature for Carriage Return ->
“<CR>” “\r” “<0D>
First range measurements can be performed by sending the software commands >LM,Md,3*D5<CR> to
the LRF module. To achieve a valid range result, aim at targets of at least 40 m distance and ensure that
you hit the target and that no obstacles such as closed windows are between the LRF and the target.
