If the controller is disabled and connected to a rotating permanent magnet motor, the discharge circuit
will be exposed to the rectified back emf even if the controller keyswitch power supply is turned off. The
line to line peak back-EMF must not exceed 95V (72V controller) and 145V (96V controller). By
maintaining a permanent connection to the battery when the motor is rotating, the battery can clamp
this voltage to an acceptable level providing it can absorb the uncontrolled regenerative energy.
