Standards
The PROFIsafe protocol was developed while taking the international standard IEC 61508
into account. The IEC 61508 governs the requirements for the functional safety of products
and systems. The use of the IEC 61508 in the process industry is described in the
application-specific standard IEC 61511.
Safety levels
The device meets the requirements of Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL).

1.4 Preconditions
CPU
The CPU must be fail-safe in order to be able to communicate with PROFIsafe devices.
These F-CPUs are contained in the catalog ST 70, SIMATIC S7.
Software
The version of PCS7 applies to PROFIsafe from V6.1 SP1 with the library from
V6.1 SP1 HF2, or with a STEP7 environment from V5.3 SP2. In addition to the standard
PCS7 or the STEP7 environment you require the software package F-Systems from
V5.2 SP4. The F-Systems software package is not included with the PROFIsafe device.
PROFIsafe device
For safety reasons, the PROFIsafe device is supplied with default settings. This means
PROFIsafe is deactivated. You activate PROFIsafe with the PROFIsafe commissioning.
Technical requirements for PROFIsafe:
• SIMATIC PDM from V6.0.1 HF1
• EDD from 01.02.01
• Firmware from 301.02.01
