Anyone who has to be near the patient during scanning must
observe the following precautions:

✧ Wear protective clothing (lead apron, and so on).
✧ Wear a PEN dosimeter and/or film badge.
✧ Stay in the zone shielded by the system, i.e., to the side of
the gantry or behind a mobile protective wall.
Patients
A.2
The physician is responsible for protecting the patient from
unnecessary radiation.
A.2
✧ Always use a gonadal shield, if possible.
✧ Use the pediatric mode for children.
✧ Use CARE features.
Reduction of the radiation
load
A.2
You can avoid repeating a measurement and so reduce the radi-
ation load on the patient by taking certain precautions.
A.2
✧ Inform the patient sufficiently. The patient must move as
little as possible during scanning and follow the breathing
instructions (to avoid motion artifacts).
✧ Ask the patient to remove all jewelry, hair clips, and so on
(to avoid metal artifacts).
✧ Make sure that the system is clean. Residual contrast
medium can cause artifacts.
✧ Observe the calibration and maintenance instructions in
the manual.
