Side Rail Set-Up
WARNING: It is recommended to have the side rails upright at all times while
the patient is in the bed. However, the ultimate decision lies with the medical
personnel who are on site and can fully evaluate all factors.
The side rails are intended to fold down away from the center of the bed.
WARNING: If the side rails are not secured in the proper place, entrapment to
the patient may occur. Bed rail entrapment is a serious health risk that can result
in serious injury or even death. Sizewise recommends the care provider be
mindful of the FDA guidelines relevant to bed rail entrapment, as serious injury
can result. These guidelines can be found on the FDA website. It is the care
provider’s ultimate decision whether or not to use bed rails with the patient.
To attach the side rails to the bed:
1. Locate the side rail mounts. These are shipped attached to the side rails. Remove the
three bolts and washers from the mount.
2. The holes on the bed deck have been pre-drilled to make the alignment of the mount
easier to put in place. After putting the side rail mount in place, put the bolts and washers
through the holes (A) then secure using a 1/2” socket wrench.
3. Slide side rail into mount (B) and secure underneath with the push pin (C) located
underneath the bed.
WARNING: A fall may occur if side rail bolts are not secured properly or not in
place causing harm to the patient and/or care provider.
