Section 4 – Pre-operation Function Tests
4.3-10 Testing platform emergency stop
light and platform emergency stop
button
1. On platform control console, pull out emergency
stop button.
▪
Result: Emergency stop light should
continuously illuminate.
2. Push in emergency stop button and attempt to
activate any MEWP function.
▪
Result: All selected MEWP functions should
not operate.
4.3-11 Testing footswitch
1. On platform control console, pull out emergency
stop button.
2. Without depressing footswitch, test each boom
and platform function.
▪
Result: MEWP functions should not operate.
NOTE
A 7-second anti-tiedown feature deactivates
footswitch when operator depresses it for 7
seconds without activating any function.
4.3-12 Testing steering
1. Depress and hold footswitch.
2. Press rocker switch on top of drive/steer
controller to left and right.
▪
Result: Steer wheels should turn left and right.
4.3-13 Testing driving function
WARNING
Ensure that there are no personnel or obstructions
in the path of travel, including blind spots.
1. Ensure path of intended motion is clear.
2. Ensure boom is in stowed position and y boom
is fully retracted.
NOTE
Stowed position indicates that the MEWP is in
the fully retracted state, the boom and basket are
centered between the drive wheels and the steer
wheels are facing straight ahead.
3. Depress and hold footswitch.
4. Slowly move drive/steer controller in forward or
backward direction until MEWP begins to move,
and then return handle to center position.

Result: MEWP should move forward in
the direction of the steer wheels when the
drive/steer controller is pushed forward and
backward in the direction of the drive wheels
when the drive/steer controller is pulled
backward.
