Do you have a question about the Sollatek FDEx2 and is the answer not in the manual?
The Sollatek FDEx2 is an electronic refrigeration controller and energy management device (EMD) designed for precise and efficient control of refrigeration systems. It offers always-on connectivity via cellular networks, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, enabling remote monitoring, data logging, and configuration. The device is built to be durable, meeting industry benchmarks, and provides voltage protection for all connected outputs. Its compact, all-in-one design facilitates installation even in confined spaces.
The FDEx2 serves as a microprocessor-based temperature controller, capable of managing up to three outputs using up to three inputs (temperature sensors and/or door switch). It uses two NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) probes to determine cooler temperature, typically measuring either return airflow or evaporator temperature. The controller operates in a closed-loop system, turning the compressor OFF when the cut-out set point is reached and ON when the cut-in temperature is reached. Users can configure both cut-in and cut-out values.
A primary function of the FDEx2 is defrost management, which can be initiated or terminated by time or temperature. It supports both Natural Defrost (compressor off, evaporator warms normally) and Forced Defrost (compressor and evaporator fan off, reverse fan/heater on). Parameters can be set to initiate the fewest defrosts per day for the shortest duration needed to clear ice, with fail-safe time backups to prevent prolonged defrosts due to component failures. The FDEx2 also includes an Energy Saving mode, which reduces compressor operation when the outlet is closed and there's no customer demand. This mode activates after a configurable period of no door activity, using higher cut-in and cut-out temperatures. It reverts to normal operation when the door is opened or the maximum energy-saving timer elapses.
The device incorporates built-in voltage protection against high/low voltage, spikes/surges, and frequency monitoring. Upon detecting bad voltage (outside acceptable limits), the FDEx2 disconnects the compressor and other connected outputs. Once voltage stabilizes, it ensures a set period of good voltage (TIMESAVE™) before reconnecting. An intelligent time delay, configurable up to 5 minutes, allows compressor gases to neutralize and mains to stabilize before reconnection, preventing locked rotor conditions. The software ignores sensor temperature readings for a brief period after compressor startup (temperature blind time) to prevent disconnections due to short-term thermal effects. It also permits short-term high and low mains voltage transitions (bad voltage blind time) to prevent inadvertent stop-starts, but will disconnect immediately if voltage becomes too extreme.
