Talk to Car Thing
The easiest way to control Car Thing is by talking to it!
Car Thing is created for you to talk to while driving and
playing music, so it can hear you even when you have music
playing.
Important! Go to the Safety information for information about
using the device safely while driving.
Get Car Thing to listen
To talk to Car Thing you first need to get it listening. You can
do that one of these ways:
○ Say: “Hey Spotify”.
○ Press and hold the center of the screen while in
the Now Playing view.
When Car Thing is listening, the Mic symbol is displayed on a
green screen. If any music is currently playing, the volume is
reduced.
Talk to Car Thing
Once Car Thing is listening, you can ask it to:
● Play the music or podcast you want to hear.
● Say which song is playing and who the artist is.
● Perform actions like pause, shuffle, skip, like, and
dislike.
Not working?
If you can’t get Car Thing to understand you or reply to you
it’s probably due to one of these errors:
● No or limited internet connection . If Car Thing has
no or limited internet connection it can’t do what you
ask it to.
● No matches for phrase. Car Thing understood what
you asked for but couldn’t find any matches in
Spotify’s library.
● Phrase wasn’t understood . Car Thing couldn’t
understand what you said. Try one of the following
solutions:
○ Speak clearly. Face the Car Thing and make
your request again, speaking clearly, at normal
speed, without emphasising certain words.
○ Eliminate noise. Make sure there’s no
excessive noise interference, for example from
open windows or air vents.
○ Rephrase. Try to rephrase your request.
