Always check and, if necessary,
repair the fuel system, carburetor,
air filter and ignition system before
looking for faults on the engine.
Troubleshooting chart – b 4.6
: Take out the screws (arrows).
– Remove the exhaust casing.

: Take out the screws (arrows).
– Remove the inlet casing.
– Remove the gasket and heat
shield.
– Check the spark arresting screen

if fitted, bend the retaining lugs
back and pull out the spark
arresting screen (except on the
MS 440 Magnum).
– Clean the spark arresting screen
or replace it if necessary.
On the MS 440 Magnum, proceed
as follows to clean the spark
arresting screen:
MS 440 Magnum only
: Take out the screws (1).
Remove the cover plate (2).

: Remove the spark arresting
screen (arrow).
– Clean the spark arresting screen
or replace it if necessary.
Versions with catalytic converter
only

: If there are cracks in the
honeycomb structure (1) or if the
steel jacket enclosing the
honeycomb is defective, the
catalytic converter must be
replaced in order to prevent
damage to the engine.
