4. SAFE RIDING PRECAUTIONS
14
To make a turn on level ground:
y Steer the handlebar and lean your body
toward the inside of the turn. Leaning
helps balance the vehicle, and it feels
more comfortable. Leaning into a turn is
an important technique to master in
riding an ATV.
y When approaching a curve, slow down
and begin to turn the handlebar. Next,
put your weight on the footboard to the
outside of the turn(opposite the turning
direction) and lean your upper body
forward into the turn. Use the throttle to
maintain an even speed during the turn.
To make a sharp turn at low speed:
y It helps to shift your body slightly
forward on the seat, and lean inside, as
you steer the handlebar. Shifting weight
forward allows the rear wheels to turn
easier, and it also improves front-wheel
steering
