4. SAFE RIDING PRECAUTIONS

y It’s usually advisable to descend hills
with the ATV pointed straight downhill.
Avoid angles that would cause the
vehicle to lean sharply to one side.
y On downhills, shift your weight back.
y As you approach a downhill, stop and
survey the terrain below. Never ride
past the limit of your visibility. Never go
down a hill at high speed.
y Use mainly the rear brake to control
speed. Avoid using either the front
brake or rear brake hard or abruptly
when riding down hills.
y Remember, braking effectiveness is
reduced on any hill with a loose
surface.
