Choosing a Location
Because of the sensitivity of DSC experiments, it is important to choose a location for the instrument using the
following guidelines. The DSC should be:
In ...a temperature-controlled area.
...a clean, vibration-free environment.
...an area with ample working and ventilation space.
On... a stable work surface.
Near...a power outlet (120 Vac, 50 or 60 Hz, 15 amps, or 230 Vac,
50 or 60 Hz, 10 amps if configured with a step down transformer).
...your TA Instruments thermal analysis controller.
...compressed lab air and purge gas supplies with suitable regulators and flowmeters, if a mass flow
controller (MFC) is not installed in the instrument.
Away
from...dusty environments.
...exposure to direct sunlight.
...direct air drafts (fans, room air ducts).
...poorly ventilated areas.
...noisy or mechanical vibrations.
CAUTION: Drying out the DSC cell may be needed, if it has been exposed to humid
conditions. It is important to be certain that the instrument ground is adequately
connected to the facilities ground for safe operation.
Run the "Cell/Cooler Conditioning" test template to dry out the cell:
1 External Event Off
2 Equilibrate at 75°C
3 Isothermal for 120.00 min.
