Wheninstallingtheventsystem,allapplicablenationalandlocalcodesmustbe
followed.Ifyouinstallthimbles,firestopsorotherprotectivedevicesandthey
penetrateanycombustibleornoncombustibleconstruction,besuretofollowall
applicablenationalandlocalcodes.
VENTINGINSTRUCTIONS
‐General‐
Thewaterheatermustbe vented inaccordancewith thesection“Ventingof Equipment" ofthelatest
editionoftheNationalFuelGasCode:ANSIZ223.1/NFPA54intheUnitedStatesand/orSection7ofthe
CAN/CSA B149.1 Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code in Canada, as well
as applicable local
buildingcodes.
The manufacturer recommends the “T‐Vent” line manufactured by TAKAGI (Refer to “T‐Vent”
brochure for details). However, the following are also UL listed manufacturers: ProTech Systems Inc.
(FasNSeal),Flex‐LInc.,Z‐FlexInc.(Z‐VentIII),Metal‐FabInc.,andHeat‐FabInc.(Saf‐TVent).
Generalrulesforventingwaterheatersare:
• Placethewaterheaterascloseaspossibletotheventterminator.
• Thevent coll arofthewaterheatermustbefasteneddirectlytoanunobstructedventpipe.
• Donotweldtheventpipetothewaterheater’sventcollar.
• Donotcuttheventcollaroftheunit.
• Theventmustbeeasily removablefromthetopofthewaterheaterfornormalserviceand
inspectionoftheunit.
• Thewaterheaterventmustnotbeconnectedtoanyothergasapplianceorventstack.
• Avoid
usinganoversizedventpipeorusingextremelylongrunsofthepipe.
• Forrooftopventing, araincaporotherformofterminationthatpreventsrainwater from
enteringintothewaterheatermustbeinstalled.
• Donotcommonventorconnectanyventfromotherappliances
tothewaterheatervent.
Generalrulesforventterminations:
• Avoidlocatingthewaterheaterventterminatornearanyairintakedevices.Thesefanscan
pick uptheexhaust flue productsfromthe water heater andreturnthemto thebuilding.
Thiscancreateahealthhazard.
• Locate the vent terminator so that
it cannot be blocked by any de bris, at any time. Most
codesrequir e thattheterminatorbe atleast12inchesabovegrade,butthe installermay
determineifitshouldbehigherdependingonthejobsitecondi tionandapplicablecodes.
• A propersidewall terminatorisrecommendedwhen
thewa ter heaterisventedthrough a
sidewall.
• Regarding the clearances fromtheexhaustterm inatortotheairinlet or opening, refer to
thenextfewpages.
