Understandingthe
OperatingCharacteristics
oftheMachine
Practicedrivingthemachine,becauseithasa
hydrostatictransmissionanditscharacteristicsare
differentthanmanyturf-maintenancemachines.
Somepointstoconsiderwhenoperatingthetraction
unit,mowerdeck,orotherimplementsarethatthe
transmission,enginespeed,loadonthemower
bladesorotherimplementcomponentsaffectmachine
performance.
WithToroSmartPower™,youdonotneedtolistento
theenginespeedinheavyconditions.SmartPower
preventsboggingdowninheavyturfbyautomatically
controllingthemachinespeedandoptimizingcutting
performance.
Youcanusethebrakestoassistinturningthe
machine.However,usethemcarefully,especially
onsoftorwetgrass,becausetheturfmaybetorn
accidentally.Anotherbenetofthebrakesisto
maintaintraction.Forexample,insomeslope
conditions,theuphillwheelslipsandlosestraction.
Ifthissituationoccurs,presstheuphillbrakepedal
graduallyandintermittentlyuntiltheuphillwheelstops
slipping,whichincreasestractiononthedownhill
wheel.
TractionAssistisautomaticandrequiresnooperator
input.Whenawheelstartstoslip,owisautomatically
splitbetweenthefrontandrearwheelstominimize
wheelslipandlossoftraction.
Useextracarewhenoperatingthemachineonslopes.
EnsurethattheROPSisintheraisedposition,the
seatlatchisproperlysecured,andtheseatbeltis
buckled.Driveslowlyandavoidsharpturnsonslopes
topreventrollovers.Forsteeringcontrol,themower
deckmustbeloweredwhengoingdownhill.
Beforeshuttingofftheengine,disengageallcontrols
andchangethethrottletotheSLOWposition.
ChangingthethrottletotheSLOWpositionreduces
high-enginespeed,noise,andvibration.Turnthekey
totheOFFpositiontoshutofftheengine.

decksandsecurethetransportlatches(Figure68).
