Lookbehindanddownbeforebackinguptobesureof
aclearpath.
Usecarewhenapproachingblindcorners,shrubs,trees,
orotherobjectsthatmayobscureyourvision.
Donotmowneardrop-offs,ditches,orembankments.
Themachinecouldsuddenlyrolloverifawheelgoes
overtheedgeoriftheedgegivesway.
Stopthereelswheneveryouarenotmowing.
Stopthemachineandinspectthecuttingunitsafter
strikinganobjectorifthereisanabnormalvibrationin
themachine.Makeallnecessaryrepairsbeforeresuming
operation.
Slowdownandusecautionwhenmakingturnsand
crossingroadsandsidewalkswiththemachine.Always
yieldtheright-of-way.
Disengagethedrivetothecuttingunitandshutoffthe
enginebeforeadjustingtheheightofcut(unlessyoucan
adjustitfromtheoperatingposition).
Neverrunanengineinanareawhereexhaustgassesare
enclosed.
Neverleavearunningmachineunattended.
Beforeleavingtheoperatingposition(includingtoempty
thecatchersortounclogthechute),dothefollowing:
Parkthemachineonlevelground.
Disengagethepowertake-offandlowerthe
attachments.
Engagetheparkingbrake.
Shutofftheengineandremovethekey.
Waitforallmovingpartstostop.
Donotoperatethemachinewhenthereistheriskof
lightning.
Donotusethemachineasatowingvehicle.
Useaccessories,attachments,andreplacementparts
approvedbyTheToro®Companyonly.
RolloverProtectionSystem(ROPS)
Safety
DonotremovetheROPSfromthemachine.
Ensurethattheseatbeltisattachedandthatyoucan
releaseitquicklyinanemergency.
Checkcarefullyforoverheadobstructionsanddonot
contactthem.
KeeptheROPSinsafeoperatingconditionbythoroughly
inspectingitperiodicallyfordamageandkeepingallthe
mountingfastenerstight.
ReplaceadamagedROPS.Donotrepairoralterit.
MachineswithaFixedRollBar
TheROPSisanintegralsafetydevice.
Alwayswearyourseatbelt.
SlopeSafety
Establishyourownproceduresandrulesforoperatingon
slopes.Theseproceduresmustincludesurveyingthesite
todeterminewhichslopesaresafeformachineoperation.
Alwaysusecommonsenseandgoodjudgmentwhen
performingthissurvey.
Slopesareamajorfactorrelatedtoloss-of-controland
tip-overaccidents,whichcanresultinsevereinjuryor
death.Operatingthemachineonanysloperequiresextra
caution.
Operatethemachineatalowerspeedwhenyouareona
slope.
Ifyoufeeluneasyoperatingthemachineonaslope,do
notdoit.
Watchforholes,ruts,bumps,rocks,orotherhidden
objects.Uneventerraincouldoverturnthemachine.Tall
grasscanhideobstacles.
Choosealowgroundspeedsoyouwillnothavetostop
orshiftwhileonaslope.
Arollovercanoccurbeforethetireslosetraction.
Avoidoperatingthemachineonwetgrass.Tiresmay
losetraction;regardlessifthebrakesareavailableand
functioning.
Avoidstarting,stopping,orturningthemachineona
slope.
Keepallmovementonslopesslowandgradual.Donot
suddenlychangethespeedordirectionofthemachine.
Donotoperatethemachineneardrop-offs,ditches,
embankments,orbodiesofwater.Themachinecould
suddenlyrolloverifawheelgoesovertheedgeorthe
edgecavesin.Establishasafetyareabetweenthemachine
andanyhazard(2machinewidths).
StartingandShuttingOffthe
Engine
Youmayneedtobleedthefuelsystemifanyofthefollowing
situationshaveoccurred;refertoBleedingtheFuelSystem
(page27):
Initialstartupofanewengine
Theenginehasceasedrunningduetolackoffuel.
Maintenancehasbeenperformeduponthefuelsystem
components;i.e.lterreplaced,etc.
StartingtheEngine
1.Ensurethattheparkingbrakeisengagedandthe
cuttingunitdriveswitchisintheDISENGAGEposition.
2.Removeyourfootfromthetractionpedalandensure
thatthepedalisintheNEUTRALposition.
3.Movethethrottlelevertothe1/2throttleposition.
4.Insertthekeyintotheswitchandrotateittothe
ON/PREHEATpositionuntiltheglow-plugindicator
lightgoesout(approximately7seconds);thenrotate
