5-2. Emergency measures
When the engine does not start
If the engine does not start even after following the correct engine
startup method (P. 122, 125), check the following.
■If the starter is running normally but the engine does not
start
The possible causes are as follows:
● It may not contain fuel.
Please refuel.
● You may be sucking in too much fuel. Start the engine again
according to the correct procedure (P. 122, 125).
● Engine immobilizer system*There may be something wrong
with. (P. 79)
■When the starter turns slowly / The interior lights / headlights are dark /
The sound of the horn is low or does not sound
The possible causes are as follows:
● The battery may be dead. (P. 351)
● The battery terminal may be loose.
■The starter does not turn (vehicles equipped with smart entry
& start system)
● There is a possibility of electrical system malfunction such as disconnection of electrical
components or blown fuse. Depending on the type of anomaly, the engine can be started as
a temporary measure. (P. 345)
● There may be something wrong with the steering lock system.
* : Different equipment and optional equipment depending on the vehicle model, etc.
