5-2. Emergency measures
When you get stuck
If the tires slip or get stuck on muddy, sandy or snowy roads, use the
following method to escape.
FF car (front wheel drive)
Apply the parking brake, set the shift lever to P for automatic
cars and N for manual cars, and stop the engine.
Remove dirt and snow before and after the tires
Place trees or stones under the tires
Restart the engine
Make sure to put the shift lever in D or R for automatic cars and
1st or R for manual cars, and step on the accelerator carefully.
Vehicles equipped with VSC: If it is difficult to escape due to the
operation of TRC / VSC, stop TRC or VSC. (P. 183)
4WD vehicle (4 wheel drive)
Apply the parking brake and set the shift lever to P to stop
the engine.
Remove dirt and snow before and after the tires
Place trees or stones under the tires
Restart the engine and check that it is in 4WD auto mode (P.
180).
Make sure to put the shift lever in D or R and step on the accelerator
carefully.
