5 Braking system
5.1 System design
The Trailer EBS E braking system is an electronically controlled braking system
with load-dependent braking pressure regulation, automatic antilocking system
(ABS) and electronic stability control (RSS).
Trailer vehicles equipped with a trailer EBS E braking system may only be towed by
motor vehicles with an extended ISO 7638 plug connections (7-pin; 24 volts; towing
vehicles with CAN data line) or with an ISO 7638 plug connections (5-pin, 24 volts;
towing vehicles without CAN data line).
Only with the TEBS E Multi-Voltage Modulator is a 12 V supply to ISO 7638 also
possible.
5.2 Scope of application
Vehicles
Trailer vehicles with one or more than one axle in classes O3 and O4 according to
the directive 70/156/EWG, Annex II with air suspension, hydraulic suspension, me-
chanical suspension, disc or drum brakes.
Braking systems
Power braking system with a pneumatic or pneumatic-hydraulic transmission sys-
tem in accordance with the directive 71/320/EEC or ECE R 13 regulation or legal
regulations StVZO (applies only in Germany).
Single and dual tires
For each axle whose rotational speed is sensed, identical tire dimensions and iden-
tical numbers of pole wheel teeth must be used.
A ratio of tire circumference to number of pole wheel teeth of ≥ 23 to ≤ 39 is per-
missible.
Example: For a pole wheel with 100 teeth and a rolling circumference of the tire of
3250 mm, the maximum wheel speed that can be processed by the EBS is v

Brake calculation
For using the Trailer EBS E, a specific brake calculation is necessary for the vehi-
cle or vehicle series. Speak to your WABCO partner.
