5.7 Supply
The Trailer EBS E is activated electrically via pin 2 of the ISO 7638 plug connec-
tion (terminal 15) and then supplied with power via pin 2 (terminal 30).
WARNING
Increased risk of accidents due to locking wheels as well as delayed braking
effect
If the ISO 7638 plug connection to the towing vehicle is not connected, the ABS-,
EBS- and RSS-control functions are not available.
Instruct the driver by suitable means with regard to this circumstance (e.g. ad-
hesive label, operating instructions).
5.7.1 Function test when switching on or coupling
Two seconds after switching on the Trailer EBS E a system check is performed
and the solenoids can be heard to briefly switch on and off.
If the system check is not audible when the 7 or 5 pin ISO 7638 plug connection is
connected, there is a problem in the power supply between towing vehicle and
TEBS E (terminal 15, 30 or ground connection of the coiled cable or power cable to
the Trailer EBS Modulator).
Consequence: The modulator is not supplied with voltage.
Remedy: Take great care while you drive to the nearest workshop.
5.7.2 Power supply via stop light (24N)
In the event of a failure of the power supply via the ISO 7638 plug connection, the
TEBS E braking system can be supplied via an optional stop light power supply
(24N) – as a safety function.
In accordance with ECE R13, an exclusive supply via the stop light is not permitted.
Please note that with the supply via 24N or ISO 12098 while travelling, the function
‘RSS’ and the GIO outputs are not active. This means that ECAS control integrated
in TEBS is also missing.
If the ECU is only supplied by the stop light while travelling in a braking procedure,
the following functions are available:
the load-related braking force distribution (LSV function)
the ABS with limited, delayed control characteristics
the ISS output for actuating a rotary slide valve with RTR function (TASC)
the ECAS RTR function
