Winter operation for OptiLoad
Second lifting axle characteristic curve with deactivated Automatic
OptiLoad: If the automatic OptiLoad function is deactivated via the
SmartBoard or Trailer Remote Control, this parameter can be used for
adjusting to a second lifting axle characteristic curve. The function
needs to be deactivated to obtain more traction on the towing vehicle
drive axle in certain conditions such as winter operation.
Without this parameter the standard characteristic curve for the auto-
matic lifting axle function would stay active, causing the lifting axles not
to raise when vehicles are partially laden or unladen for example.
The second characteristic curve can delay lifting or prevent it alto-
gether.
The pressure value for the drawbar load reduction is only allowed to be maximum
100% of the bellows pressure ‘laden’.
Control options
Permanently automatic
The function starts independently of the driver, according to the defined boundary
conditions.
If a SmartBoard is installed, the automatic function can be temporarily deactivated,
to save air for example (up to TEBS E2 the automatic function could only be acti-
vated/deactivated simultaneously for both OptiTurn and OptiLoad). The OptiLoad is
reactivated after the ignition has been switched off and on again (Trip function).
The Automatic function can also be switched off completely and then reactivated
again via the SmartBoard.
The manoeuvering assistance button or the Trailer Remote Control (only in combi-
nation with ELEX and version TEBS E2 or higher) can be used to put the Auto-
matic function into Forced lowering mode by pressing the button for > 5 seconds.
The OptiLoad is reactivated after the ignition has been switched off and on again
(Trip function).
Manual control
As soon as OptiLoad is deactivated the systems stays in this status until it is reac-
tivated via the SmartBoard or by actuating the manoeuvering assistance button
(press twice).
The SmartBoard or the Trailer Remote Control (only in combination with ELEX)
can be used instead of a button. After switching the ignition off and back on again
or by switching off with the SmartBoard, Trailer Remote Control or Manoeuvering
assistance button, OptiLoad is deactivated again.
More information on operation, see chapter 10.5 ‘Operation OptiLoad / OptiTurn’,
page 182 an
d see chapter 10.2 ‘Operation with Trailer Remote Control’, page 172.
6.9.3 Connecting the components
OptiLoad/OptiTurn in combination with ECAS
For optimal and efficient use of the functions (response time test and control re-
sponse), an electronically controlled air suspension system (lifting & lowering +
control of the Opti-function axle) must be used.
Furthermore an EBS relay valve with external bellows pressure sensor e-f must be
installed on the last axle to adjust the optimal braking pressure when braking with a
