How to establish serial data communications with Watlow SD?

  If you cannot establish serial data communications with the Watlow controller, check the Setup Page and set the correct address and baud rate. Look for any breaks in the daisy chain. Verify correct connections and test the wiring paths. Check the converter box wiring and its documentation. Reconfigure your computer’s COM port setup and verify that communications are okay. Check the communication card documentation for settable variables and operational testing. Restart the PC software and check for settings agreement. Verify the COM bus is active. Verify operation with the Watlow communications tool available at www.watlow.com. For EIA/TIA-485, add termination resistors (see Install and Wire chapter).

Why parameter(s) do not appear on Watlow SD Controller?

  If parameter(s) do not appear on the Watlow Controller, it may be because the parameter is not active. Refer to the Setup and Operation chapters to determine when the parameters should appear. Alternatively, parameter lockout may be active; set the correct level of lockout for access on the Setup Page. Lastly, the Operations Page may not be configured properly; select the desired parameters for the Programming Page.

  To establish an infrared communications link with the Watlow Controller, ensure that the optical transceiver path is not obstructed by holding the infrared device within the appropriate range and angle of view to the controller.
