Bearings and oil seals
1. Inspection
a. After cleaning and lubricating bearings,
rotate inner race with a finger. If rough
spots are noticed, replace
the bearing,
b. Check oil seal lips for damage and
wear. Replace
as required.
2. Removal
a. Pry oil seal(s) out of place using a
slotted head screwdriver.
Always replace all oil seals when
overhauling engine.
NOTE:·-----------
Place a piece of wood under the screw-
driver to prevent damage to case.
b. Drive out bearing(s) with socket and
hammer.
NOTE:
Bearing(s) are most easily removed or
installed if the cases are first heated to
approximately 1oo·c. Bring the case up
to proper temperature slowly. Use an
oven.
