2-7 REMOVAL OF TOP END
Note:

Remove th e cylinder h ea d s. Each h ea d is held do wn by
four nuts.
Break
eac h nut loose, in pa ttern, before removing com-
pl
etely .
Note:
On reassembl y, the head bo lt s are torqued, gradually
and in patter
n, to 16 . 5~ 19 .5ft -l bs.

The next step is to remove t he cy linders.
When the
cy linders are lifted o ff it is advisable to slip a
clean
rag beneath the piston. Thi s wi ll stop any carbon.

engine.
Do not u
se a hammer to dri ve the pin out.

ENGINE - Removal of Top End

The piston assembly is removed at this time. Use a needle
no se pliers to remove the piston pin clip.
Use a soft drift pin to push the piston pin out to allow a
pair of pliers to grip and completely remove the piston pin.
Once the piston pin has been removed the piston can be
I ifted off the rod and set aside. Be sure to remove the
needle bearings
in the upper rod end so as not to loose
th em when the engine is moved.
