VLANOverview
TheVirtualLocalAreaNetwork(VLAN)protocolisabasicprotocoloflayer-2switching
equipment,whichenablestheadministratortodivideaphysicalLANintomultipleVLANs.
EachVLANhasaVLANIDtoidentifyituniquelyintheentireLAN.MultipleVLANsshare
theswitchingequipmentandlinksofthephysicalLAN.
Logically,aVLANislikeanindependentLAN.AllframeowsinthesameVLANare
restrictedinthisVLAN.Cross-VLANvisitcanonlybeimplementedthroughforwarding
onlayer3.Inthisway,thenetworkperformanceisimproved,andtheoverallowinthe
physicalLANiseffectivelylowered.
TheVLANhasthefollowingfunctions:
lReducesthebroadcaststormsofnetwork.
lEnhancesthenetworksecurity.
lProvidescentralizedmanagementandcontrol.
TheZXR105250alsosupportsthetagged-basedVLAN.ThisisamodedenedinIEEE
802.1Qandisauniversalworkingmode.Inthismode,thedivisionofVLANisbasedon
theVLANinformationabouttheport(PVID:portVLANID)ortheinformationintheVLAN
tag.Also,theZXR105250supportsthedivisionofVLANaccordingtothepacketprotocol
type,thatis,protocolVLAN.
