4 Measurement Tutorial
The Agilent multimeter’s specifications are valid for CF
~10, provided
there is insignificant signal energy present above the 300kHz bandwidth
of the meter. Multimeter performance is not specified for CF>10, or when
significant high–frequency signal content is present.
Example:
An ac waveform to be measured is typically 1V
rms
, and will be measured
on the 1 V range. It has occasional spikes of about 3 V (i.e. representing a
Crest Factor of 10) and duration not less than 10 ms (zero crosses at
100 kHz). This ac waveform can be measured without introducing error.
However, had this signal level been much lower (e.g. in the range of
0.1 V
rms
, the 3V spike would represent a Crest Factor of 30 – out of the
specified performance range of the meter.
