2-13. Packaging for Reshipment
A. Original Packaging
1. The same containers and materials used in factory packaging can be obtained through Hewlett-Packard
Sales Offices listed at the rear of this manual.
2. In any correspondence refer to the equipment by model number.
B. Other Packaging Methods
1. If it becomes necessary to reship equipment, good commercial packing should be used. Contract packaging
companies can provide dependable custom packaging on short notice The following general instructions
should be followed when repackaging with commercially available materials.
2. If shipping to a Hewlett-Packard Support Office or Center, attach a tag indicating the type of service
required, return address, and model number.
3. Wrap the equipment in heavy paper or plastic.
4. Use a strong shipping container. A double-wall carton made of 350 pound test material is adequate.
5. Use enough shock-absorbing material (three to four inch layer) around all sides of the equipment to provide
a firm cushion and prevent movement inside the container.
6. Seal the shipping container securely.
7. Mark the shipping container FRAGILE to assure careful handling.

2-15. The following paragraphs provide installation information for the HP 5517B/C/D Laser Head including system
cabling, grounding considerations, power supply requirements, power dissipation, fusing, and mounting and
fixturing.
2-16. System Cabling
2-17. The HP 5517B/C/D Laser Head is designed for use with either the HP 5501A Laser Transducer System or the
HP 5527A Laser Position Transducer system. The HP 10791A/B/C Power Supply/Reference Cable
(Figure 2-1)
connects the HP 5517B to the HP 5501A system electronics, and the HP 10793A/B/C Laser Head Cable
(Figure 2-2)
connects the HP 5517B to the HP 5527A system electronics (HP 5507A).
2-18. The HP 10791A/B/C and HP 10793A/B/C cables are both available in three lengths. The A model is 3 meters
(10 feet) in length, the B model is 7 meters (23 feet), and the C model is 20 meters (65 feet).
2-19. The HP 5517D Laser Head is designed for use with PC-compatible, VMEbus, or HP 5527B system electronics.
The following chart shows the HP cables available for use with this laser head.
