You may use the GPOs to switch devices on and off on certain actions. A simple suggestion may
be to turn on a red light in a voice-over booth when you enter record.
Many things are possible and no doubt you will find your own uses for these connections. Please
refer to the information at the end of this manual for technical details of the connections to the
GPIO interface board.
Pressing F2 (GPIO) on the SYSTEM/REMOTE page displays this screen:
This screen allows you to configure the GPIO board in MAG or MULTITRACK modes.
The GPIs used for transport control are momentary (they are triggered once with a pulse to
select the track, and a second time to switch it off).
The available GPI configurations are:
MAG In MAG mode, The GPIs used for track selections are momentary
(they are triggered once with a pulse to select the track, and a
second time to switch it off).
In MAG mode, the Record Track GPIs respond in a similar manner
to the tracks keys on a MAG machine - when a record track is
selected, the transport will immediately drop into record. When the
transport motion stops, all record track selections are automati-
cally cleared.
MULTITRACK In MULTITRACK mode, the GPIs assigned for track selections are
level triggered (they are held at one state to select the track). With
the default GPO assignments, the MAG/MULTITRACK mode is
indicated by the state of GPO 12. Additionally, there is a relay on
the GPIO board that is controlled by GPO12. This can be used to
switch the operating mode of external equipment.
When MULTITRACK mode is selected, the [Punch In] field is used to select how the DD8 will
start recording. The available options are:
REC + PLAY The DD8 will start recording when both GPI ‘RECORD’ and ‘PLAY’
commands are activated simultaneously.
REC ONLY The DD8 will start recording when a GPI ‘RECORD’ command is
received on its own.
TRACK COMMANDS With this option, the DD8 will behave as if it is in MAG mode, but
track selections will be level triggered. Record track commands
will only be accepted while the transport is in motion. When the
transport motion stops, all record track selections are cleared.
