a. An access ladder is provided to be attached to the back of the PSR antenna permitting access to the
top of the PSR antenna for access to the PSR and LVA lifting locations and the LVA mounting bolts,
tilt mechanism and coaxial cables.
b. The ladder can be installed to the PSR antenna after the antenna has been installed to the pedestal.
The ladder can be installed to the PSR antenna while on the ground provided the PSR antenna is
raised
32"
above the ground and is supported on timbers or other means allowing clearance between
the bottom end of the ladder and the ground.
c. The access ladder has brackets attached at the top and bottom of the ladder which fit over two square
tubes (fixed rails) attached at the top and bottom of the PSR.
d. If the top fixed rail is already attached to the PSR proceed to step E. If the top rail is not attached,
bolt the rail to the top of the PSR using 5/8" hardware and spacers as shown in Figure 3- 5. Tighten
all bolts to 150 ft-lbs. Ensure a stop bumper (item 8) has been installed in one end of the rail.
Caution: the fixed rails weigh 46 lbs each and require two people or a crane to lift to the top
of the PSR antenna.
e. Attach the bottom fixed rail to the antenna base using 5/8" hardware and spacers as shown in Figure
3- 5. The bottom fixed rail has horizontal slots and the base of the antenna has vertical slots.
Position the bottom rail so the bolts are roughly centered in these slots. Tighten but do not torque the
two bolts at each end of the fixed rail, leave the middle two bolts loose for now. The rail will be
adjusted for position after the ladder is installed. Ensure a stop bumper (item 8) has been installed in
one end of the rail.
f. Before installing the ladder ensure that the extension section has been fully retracted and that the 3/8"
bolts and angle spacers ( items 17 & 19 ) are installed. Ensure the ball lock pin has been removed from
the lower bracket and the two handwheel clamps in the upper bracket are fully withdrawn (handwheel turned
counterclockwise until stopped ).
g. Install the ladder using three people to guide the ladder brackets over the top and bottom fixed rails.
Slide the ladder onto the fixed rails just far enough to allow the stop bumpers to be installed in the top and
bottom fixed rails.
Caution: Do not slide the ladder along the rails until the stop bumpers have been installed in each
end of both fixed rails.
