IP Basics
ManyAUDACproductsarecontrollablebyEthernet.TheEthernetconnectionwhich
isusedontheAUDACproductsisTCP/IPbasedlike99%ofthecomputernetworks.
TherearesomebasicswhichyouneedtoknowtosuccessfullymakeaTCP/IPEthernet
connection.
ThedatainTCP/IPnetworksisalwayssendinpackages,allthesepackagesmustbe
deliveredtoauniqueaddress,justlikethemailmandeliversmailtoyourhomemailbox.
InTCP/IPnetworks,thisaddressiscalledthe“IPaddress”.TheIPaddressisalwaysa
numberinthefollowingformat“192.168.000.001”.Asyoucansee,thisaddressconsists
of4separatenumbersrangingfrom“000”to“255”.
Insimpleterms,onlythelastnumberofanIPaddresscanbedifferentwithina
network,sothereisamaximumof256uniqueaddresseswithinanetwork,ranging
from“xxx.xxx.xxx.000”to“xxx.xxx.xxx.255”.Thefirstthreenumbershavetobe
thesametomakecommunicationbetweenseveraldevicespossible,otherwisethe
devicescannotcommunicatewitheachother.
Example:
Device1: IPaddress: 192.168.000.001
Device2: IPaddress: 192.168.000.002
Device3: IPaddress: 192.168.001.003
Inthisexample,Device1cancommunicatewithDevice2,butnotwithDevice
3,becausethefirstthreenumbershavetobethesame.Thesefirstthreeparts
arecalledthe“IPrange”,sothedeviceshavetobeinthesame“IPrange”to
communicatewitheachother.
