Sensors in the bumper
Sensors are located in the rear bumpe rs . If t hese d etect a n obs ta cle,
audib le and visual signa ls warn you . The range at which the sensors
begin to measure is a pproximate ly:

W he n the dis t ance is less tha n 1ft (0 .30 m), t he to ne become s
cont inuo us. At this point you should stop back ing up.
If t he d ista nce to an obsta cle st ays t he same, th e volume of t he
dis t ance sig na l chime is grad ua lly reduced after about 4 seconds
(does not affe ct t he co ntin uous signal tone) . Approa ching another
obs t acle w ill cause t he distance sig na l t o sound aga in at the normal
vol ume .
Rear view camera coverage area
The MMI disp lay shows the a rea covered by the rear view camera

page 153, fig . 14 9 G). Objects t hat are not in the a rea covered @
are not shown on the MMI dis play .
We recommen d t hat you practi ce pa rking w ith t he rea r view ca mera
in a tra ffic-free location or parking lot to become fam iliar with the
syste m, t he or ien tation lines, and the ir funct ion. When d oing thi s,
there should be good light and weather con ditions.
In t he MMI d is play, obje cts or vehicles appea r closer or f urt her away
if:
• you a re dr iving in reverse gear from a level sur face onto an incline,
or a do wnwa rd slop e,
• you a re driving in reve rse g ear towar d prot ruding objects,
• t he vehicle is ca rrying to o mu ch load in t he rear .
The accuracy of the or ientat ion lines and bl ue su rfaces diminis hes if:
• t he rear view camera does not prov ide a re liable image, for
exam p le, in poor vis ibility con dit ion s or if t he lens is dirty,
• the image on t he screen is not visib le due t o sun glare and reflec -
ti on .
Caring for the rear view camera lens

& WARNING
• The parking aid cannot replace the driver's attention. The
driver alone is responsible for parking and similar driving maneu•
vers.
• Always keep your eyes on the vehicle's surroundings, using the
rear view mirror as well.
• Do not allow yourself to be distracted from traffic by the rear
view camera pictures.
• If the position and the installation angle of the camera has
changed, for example, after a rear end collision, do not continue
to use the system for safety reasons. Have it checked by a qualified
dealership.
