Starting the engine requires a well charged battery .

- Turn off t he ign it ion and all electrica l cons umers.
- Make sure the area is well vent ilate d when you charge the
bat tery .
- Open t he engine hood =?

- Open the red cover on the positive pole =? fig. 20 4 .
- Connect the charger con nectors accordi ng to the instruc-
tions to the
jump start bolts . (Bolts un der the red cover =
"positive" , Bolt s wit h hex head = "negative") .
- Only now plug t he ma ins lead for t he charging equ ipme nt
into t he wall outlet and tu rn it on ~ & .
- Make sure the charging rate is not over 30 amps/ 14 .8
Volt.
- When t he bat te ry is fu lly charged: Turn the cha rging
eq uipment off an d
remov e th e main s lead f rom the wa ll
out let.
- Now remove the clamps for t he charging equipment.
- Close the red cover on the positive pole .

A d ischa rged batte ry can freeze at t empe rat ures of only 32 °F (0 °( ).
Allow a fro zen ba t tery to thaw comp letely before attempt ing to
charge it =:,& . However, we recomme nd not using a thawed bat t ery
again because the battery casing ca n be cracked due to ice formation
and can leak bat t ery acid.

W hen charging at low volt ages (e.g. with a trickle charger), t he
bat tery cables do not have t o be disconnected first. The batte ry caps
should
not be opened when charging a batte ry.
It is not necessary to remove the battery from the luggage compart-
ment.
