The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light is located in the center of t he
instrumen t panel => fig . 11 1.
The
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light will come on and stay on to te ll
you when the front Advanced Airbag on the passenger side has been
t urned off by the ele ct ronic contro l unit. Each t ime you t ur n on the
ignition, the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light will flash fo r a few
seconds an d:
will stay on if the front passenger seat is not occupied ,
will st ay on if there is a small ch ild or child restra int on the front
passenger seat,
will go out if the front passenger seat is occupied by an ad ult as
registered by the weight-sensing mat .
The
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light mu st come on and stay on if the
ign ition is on and
a car bed has been installed o n the front seat, or
a rearward -facing child rest raint has been installed on the front
passengerseat,o r
a forward-fac ing child restraint has been installed on the front
passenger seat, or
the weight registered on the front passenger seat is equal to or
less t han t he com bined we ight of a typical 1 yea r-old restrained in
one of the rear-facing or forward-facing infant restraints listed in
Fede ral Mot or Vehicle Safe ty Stan dard 208 wit h which the Advanced
Airbag System in your vehicle was cert ified.
If the front passenger seat is not occupied, the front airbag will not
dep loy, and the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF ligh t will stay on. Never
install a rearward- facing child restraint on the front passenger seat,
the safest place fo r a child in any kind of child rest raint is at one of the
seating pos it ions on the rear seat=>

"Child Safety" .
If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light come s on when one of the
conditions list ed a bove is met, be sure to check t he light reg ularly t o
ma ke certain that the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light stays on
cont inuously whe never the ign ition is on. If the
PASSENGER AIR BAG
OFF
light does not appear and not stay on all the t ime, stop as soon
as it is safe to do so and
reactivate the system by turn ing the ignition off and then turn ing
it on again;
remove and reinstall the child restraint. Make sure that the child
restraint is properly insta lled and that the safety belt for the front
passenger seat has been correctly routed around t he child restraint as
described in the child restraint ma nufacturer's instru ctions;
make sure that the convertible locking feature on the safety belt
for the front passe nger seat has been act ivate d and that the safe ty
belt has been pu lled tight. The belt must not be loose or have loops
of slack so that the senso r be low the safety belt latc h on the seat can
do its job=>
page 159.
make sure t ha t things that may increase the weight of the child
and child safety seat are not being transported on the front
passenge r seat;
make sure that the safety belt tension sensor is not blocked.
Shake the safety belt latc h o n t he front passenge r seat back and
forth;
If a strap or t et her is be ing used to t ie t he child safety se at t o the
front passenger seat, make sure that it is not so tight that it causes
