Parking brake
When the parking brake is set, it prevents the vehicle
from rolling away unintentionally.

- Pull the parking brake lever all t he way up.
Releasing the parking brake
- Pull the parking brake lever up slightly and press the
release button at the same time::::::, fig. 79 -arrow-.
- Keep t he release button pressed and lower t he parking
brake::::::,& .
If you shou ld drive off wit h the parking bra ke st ill set, a warning t one
will sound and the following will appear in the instrument cluste r to
remind you to release t he parking bra ke:
Parking brake set
The parking brake warning comes on only after you have driven for
longer t han 3 seconds and fast er than 5 mph (5 km/h).
The parking brake warning light Brake (USA)/© (CDN) illuminates
when the parking brake is set and you switch on the ignit ion.
& WARNING
Always release the parking brake completely. A partially engaged
brake will overheat the rear brakes, reduce the ir effectiveness and
cause excessive we ar. This could lead to brake failur e and an acci-
dent.

set the par king brake and either move t he se lector lever into "P". •
Parking
To prevent a parked vehicle from rolling away, there are
a few things you should do.
When you park your vehicle, do t he following:
- St op t he vehicle using the brake pedal.
- Set t he parking brake firmly.
- Switch off t he engine.
- Move t he selector lever into t he P position::::::,& .
- Remove the ignition key from t he ignit ion lock.
What else you should do when parking your vehicle
on an incline or decline
Turn t he st eer ing wheel so t hat if t he vehicle sho uld st art t o roll, it
will roll into the curb .
