If you are park ing on a decline (the front of your vehicle facing down-
hill) , tu rn the front whee ls to the rig ht so that t hey point toward the
curb.
If you are parking on an incline (the font of your vehicle facing uphill),
t ur n the front whee ls t o t he left so t hat they poin t
away from the
curb.
_& WARNING
This is how you can reduce the risk of injury when leaving your
vehicle.
• Never park the vehicle where it can come in contact with dry
grass, spilled fuel or any other flammable mater ial s.
• Never allow anyone - especially small children - to remain
in
the vehicle when it is locked. Locked doors make it more difficult
for rescuers to access the passenger compartment in the event of
an emergency. Danger to life!
• Never leave children unsupervised in the vehicle. Children
could release the parking brake or move the gearshift lever out of
gear. The vehicle could start to roll away and cause an accident .
• No matter what the season is, the temperature in a parked
vehicle can reach dangerou s level s. •

The pa rking ass ist is act ivated when
reverse gear is en gaged. A brief
t one confi rms that the system is activa t ed .
Backing up
Distance warning when backing up starts when a n obstacle is
detected in the range of the park assist sys t em. As the dis t ance
decreases, the time interval between t he a udible to nes becomes
sho rter .
Whe n the dis t ance is less tha n 1 foot (0.30 m), t he t one be comes
cont inuo us. At this point you should stop back ing up.
Please note that low objec t s a lready signalled by a warning can disap -
pear from t he system's de t ect io n range and will not cont inue to be
signalled.
Potential malfunctions
If a warning buzzer so unds fo r a few secon d s when the ign ition is
sw itched on , there is a system malfunction with the acoust ic park
assist . If the ma lfunct ion pe rsists until the ign ition is switched off,
th e re w ill be no aco ust ic warning at the next at t em pt to act ivate t he
system. Have the problem corrected.
The re is no co nfir mat ion tone w hen rever se gear is engaged if t here is
a system ma lfunct ion.
For the pa rking assist to operate, the sensors must be kept clean an d
